The library of Wilten Abbey serves as a scientific library, a study library and for internal use. Collection areas: Tirolensia, Wiltinensia, Premonstratensia, theology, art and history.
A monastery library is already attested for the earliest period of the Premonstratensian monastery of Wilten, which was confirmed by Pope Innocent II in 1138. In a deed of donation from 1140, the authenticity of which has not been confirmed, books are listed alongside liturgical equipment.
From the 14th and 15th century there are still some manuscripts and numerous incunabula. In addition, there is information about borrowed books and the names of some scribes from the Wilten scriptorium.
