As a service-oriented information centre, the Austrian National Library offers its users access to its own holdings (almost 12 million items) as well as to international data pools in 19 reading rooms and via digital portals.
In its eight collections, the Austrian National Library, as the heir to the Habsburg court library, preserves a significant proportion of the world's written cultural heritage, the holdings of which it is constantly expanding through acquisitions.
The State Hall and the five museums - Literature Museum, Papyrus Museum, Globe and Esperanto Museum and House of Austrian History - display unique art treasures from the various collections.
