History and folk culture of Ausseerland
Known for its diversity and charm, the city museum is housed in the Kammerhof, a 14th century architectural jewel.
The building was first mentioned in a document in 1395. Although it has been rebuilt several times in the course of its history, there is still a large amount of original building fabric.
A building analysis carried out by the Vienna University of Technology in 2003 confirms the building's historical significance. The Kammerhof served as a salt office building until 1926.

The Imperial Hall
In 1442 Emperor Frederick III stayed overnight in the Aussee Kammerhof on his coronation journey to Aachen. In December 1511, Emperor Maximilian stayed in the Kaisersaal.
The coat of arms stone with the imperial eagle above the house gate is still a reminder of this today.
The small, centrally located room fascinates with its beautifully faceted door frames, window crosses and benches as well as the fireplace made of Aussee red marble, created by the Aussee stonemason Engelprecht around 1530.
The Ausseer Kammerhofmuseum sees itself as a "museum of local history" that primarily wants to contribute to the cultural identity of the region and be a point of reference for identity discussions.
For the self-image of the people of a region is only ever created on the basis of experience of history and the traditional rites, skills and cultural habits.
The Kammerhofmuseum wants to be a place where these experiences can be deepened, internalised and enriched.

By dealing with current historical or folkloristic topics concerning the region in the context of special exhibitions, discussion events and publications, the museum wants to contribute to sharpening the view for the current and future development of the region.
