The Paula Grogger House - high art in a rural setting
The Paula Grogger Museum as a living memorial: "... as if she were still among us...."
PAULA GROGGER
Paula Grogger was born on 12 July 1892 in Öblarn as the daughter of an iron and machine merchant. She attended the teacher training college of the Ursulines in Salzburg and then entered the teaching profession.
She began to be active in literature at an early age. With the novel "Das Grimmingtor" (The Grimming Gate), the poet Paula Grogger was recognised in world literature and became known far beyond the borders of Austria. The second important work by Paula Grogger was the play about Archduke Johann, "The Wedding", which was first performed in Öblarn in 1936.
Many interested readers and admirers came to Öblarn to visit her in her house, the place of her life and literary work.
THE MUSEUM
From the proceeds of the Grimmingtor, Paula Grogger built her house in 1932 / 33, which she lived in until her death. After Paula Grogger's death on 1 January 1984, the Grogger House became a museum in 1994.
Visitors to the Paula Grogger Museum are presented with the living quarters in their original state. With the many collected objects from the poet's life, the house takes on a folk cultural significance in addition to its literary significance.
The attic was subsequently converted and is available for the presentation of special exhibitions.
The museum team guides every visitor, whether individually or in a group, through the premises of the great Styrian poet with joy and expert knowledge.
Management of the museum: Ilse Rietzinger
