The winter sports museum Haus im Ennstal
A virtual journey through time to the beginnings of winter sports
In three different displays, visitors are shown the development of locomotion in the snow. Apart from the first attempts to master the natural phenomenon of "snow" in northern latitudes, early contacts with this element from our region are presented here.
The hunter who once used snow tyres to cope with the high snow conditions in his hunting ground and the dangerous transport of wood into the valley with the help of the "Tatzschlitten" is shown at the beginning of the winter sports museum.


This is followed by the topic of rural leisure activities and competitions in winter. The presentation of this topic ranges from children sledging to the European ice shooting competition.
After the turn of the century, young people in the Haus area also discovered the new winter fun on two boards by skiing down the slopes using the "single-pole technique". Winter tourism around the Hauser Kaibling began with the construction of the Krummholzhütte.
There was still no goods and passenger transport and the porter took over the transport tasks from the valley to the hut. School ski courses - widespread today - were already common here in Haus since 1912 as the pioneering work of head teacher Friedrich Kabusch ...

Arrival
The Haus im Ennstal Winter Sports Museum is easily accessible by public transport. You can take lines 900, 901 or 976 to the "Haus Ort" stop, which is 150 metres from the museum (approx. 3 minutes' walk). By car you can reach the centre of Haus im Ennstal and from there it is about 300 metres to the museum.
