The Nature Park House Großsölk Castle
The small Großsölk Castle was originally a rest and refreshment stop for muleteers on their way to the Sölk Pass.
In the meantime, part of the castle has become a museum and houses exhibitions and an event room.
Großsölk Castle
The historic house was built in the 14th century and has always had an important function for the old trade routes over the Sölk Pass.
Until the 17th century, the castle was owned by the respective sovereigns, who finally sold it to the Jesuit order in 1617.
After the dissolution of the order, the house was a parsonage and since 1998 the castle has been the seat of the Nature Park House.
Exhibitions 2026:
- NEW: The lost night sky - light pollution and its consequences
The exhibition impressively shows how artificial light has changed our view of the starry sky and what effects this has on humans, animals and the environment.
- Climate winners? - Climate losers!
The exhibition explains the effects of climate change on vegetation based on phenological events and looks at the effects on native wildlife.
- The gold of the mountain pastures (Ennstaler Steirerkas)
Ennstaler Steirerkas is a typical regional farm product with a long tradition and history. Embedded in the cultural history of development, the exhibition shows the ancient cheese tradition from the Middle Ages to the modern age.
A permanent exhibition on the nature and history of the nature park is presented in six medieval castle rooms.
