Mesnerhaus Sankt Nikolai - the gateway to the culture of the Sölktäler
Opening soon:
the Mesnerhaus becomes an experience both on site and virtually.
History, community and a modern cultural experience await you in a nutshell.
Experience history
In the heart of Sankt Nikolai im Sölktal stands the historic Mesnerhaus - a house full of history.
It has characterised the life of the village community since 1639: as a sacristan's house, school, poorhouse and toll station. After its renovation, it became a cultural meeting place for exhibitions, festivals and lectures.
With the redesign in 2025 by the Association for the Preservation of Ancient Sölk Knowledge, the Mesnerhaus opens up as a museum of local history that preserves and vividly conveys the multi-layered culture of the Sölk valleys.

The exhibitions
The remote Sölktal valley has produced a wealth of knowledge over generations - from folk medicine and plant knowledge to customs and traditions. Three subject areas are presented in a multimedia exhibition:
- Bruno Holzinger - the farmer doctor with a special gift
Medicine and ethnobotany as reflected in his life and the flora of the region. - Posch Hans - the musical foundling from the Mesnerhaus
From orphan to musician - his moving story in a historic parlour. - Culinary delights of the Sölk
Typical dishes and customs throughout the year - an insight into the art of cookery and festive traditions.
This makes the Mesnerhaus in Sankt Nikolai a place where the knowledge, stories and lifestyles of the Sölktäler can be experienced by present and future generations.
