Beautiful castles, finely crafted keys and ornate boxes can be admired in the Schell Collection. But have you ever wondered what materials they are made of?
The special guided tour therefore focuses entirely on the theme of the special exhibition „The Magic of Materials: Fascinating Materials and Their Use in Old Artcrafts“.
In addition to object stories, the materials of the exhibits are the focus of attention. Apparently everyday materials such as wood, iron or leather may still be able to surprise us. Moreover, mysterious materials such as amber or pearl reveal their secrets. Finally, materials from the depths of the sea and stones from the interior of the Earth come to the surface and tell their stories.

Decoding women's myths in the Schell Collection - 11.03.2026
For the second time, the leadership event „Debunking Myths! Unlocking Women’s Myths in the Schell Collection“ takes place. In this event, you will take a closer look at real and fictional female figures using museum objects. They range from Medusa and Amazons from Greek mythology to Eve and Mary from the Bible, as well as Empress Sisi. Similarly, you will meet Palden Lhamo from Tibetan Buddhism.
