The Dachstein Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00 when the Austriahütte is open (early June to mid-October). Free admission with the Sommercard.

The highest museum in Styria
The Dachstein Museum is located in the Austriahütte at 1638 m above sea level. It can be easily reached on foot from the valley station of the Dachsteinsüdwand cable car in 20 minutes.
The museum invites visitors to search for traces of the manifold relationships between man and mountain in the history of the region and the Alpine Club. Its theme is alpine development and tourism around the Dachstein. The common thread is formed by five fields of action with which people relate to the mountain: imagining the mountain, getting to the mountain, being on the mountain, climbing up and coming down safely.
In the retelling of the development story, questions are opened up about the different perspectives of tourism, the interplay of individuals and communities, the outstanding and the diverse.

The exhibition tells of images and ideas, of different approaches to the Dachstein, of cartography and exploration by Friedrich Simony, for example. It also tells of the Dachstein as a working area and of staying on the mountain with its accommodation, whether tents, huts or houses.

The equipment tells the stories of mountaineering, lets danger, belaying and mountain rescue play their roles - not only in the film - and illustrates that the mountain can sometimes take a back seat in all this.
