Kunstforum Wien: the exhibition space of Bank Austria

The house was the flagship of the cultural engagement of UniCredit Bank Austria. Moreover, it was the most successful privately-run exhibition house in Austria. It was characterized by a strong focus on service and customer satisfaction.

International partners

Under the leadership of Ingried Brugger, the Kunstforum Wien maintained close relationships with renowned institutions. These included, for example, the Tate Modern and the Royal Academy in London as well as the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Likewise, the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam were part of the network. In addition, the Haus collaborated with the Kunsthaus Zürich and the Fondation Beyeler in Basel. This resulted in multinational exhibitions.

The main focus was on classical modernism and avant-garde art; in addition, the house also devoted itself to artists of the post-war era.

Exhibitions from recent years

In the spring of 2021, the Haus presented an exhibition of works by Daniel Spoerri. It brought together more than 100 key works by the universal artist. After that, the Kunstforum Wien dedicated Rebecca Horn’s first comprehensive exhibition of works in Austria in nearly 30 years. From October 2023 to January 2024, „Robert Motherwell – Pure Painting“ was on view. This was the first retrospective of the American artist in Austria since 1976. Subsequently, „Gauguin – unexpected“ was on view from October 2024. Likewise, the Haus presented exhibitions on Helmut Newton and Roberto Matta.
